microHVA-2 – dual MFC channel high voltage power amplifier

The microHVA-2 is a triple output power supply with one fixed 500V output, and two variable outputs from 0V to 2 kV.

microHVA-2 – Dual MFC channel High Voltage Power Amplifier

This power supply is specifically designed for driving P1 type MFCs. Use of the bias supply allows a voltage range of -500V to +1500V to be applied simultaneously to two different MFCs or MFC groups. For the output voltage control, the microHVA-2 provides four jumper-selectable interfaces, an analog interface, a PWM interface, an 8-bit I2C interface, and a 12-bit I2C interface. It is designed for battery operation and requires a DC supply voltage from 12V to 16V.

Voltage Output Range

Two variable supplies from 0 – 2000V.

One fixed supply 500V, for negative bias.

Current Output Range

0V – 2000V: 0mA – 1.5mA, 3W

500V: 0mA – 10mA, 5W

Input Voltage

12 – 16V DC

Maximum current 2A (during charging)

External Voltage Control Input

The control input operates over a 0 – 5V range for a 0 – 2000V output (factor 400 amplification). Signal frequency range is 0Hz – 250Hz, depending on the connected capacitance (MFC) and voltage swing on the output channel. Overvoltage and negative voltage protected. An enable input shuts down all outputs to save power consumption and for safety.

PWM Control Input

1ms – 2ms corresponds to -500V – 1500V across the output channels and negative bias.

Repetition rate is 50Hz nominally,

min. 5Hz, max. 300Hz

I²C Control Interface

The I²C slave address is: 0x78 hex.

The I²C Bus interface supports four data transfer speeds from 100kb/s – 3.4Mb/s.

Dimensions

45mm x 67mm x 18mm

Components are mounted on both sides of the PCB.

Note – High voltages are present on both sides of the PCB

Weight

approx. 50 grams
